The Project
Design and develop a Shopify Plus storefront that reflects the PlayhouseMD mission: making pediatric healthcare more approachable, playful, and emotionally supportive for families. Translate a doctor-designed product line into a digital space that feels both fun and professional, while ensuring a seamless eCommerce experience.
The Challenges
Defining and Translating Brand Identity: As a new brand, PlayhouseMD was still shaping its identity. We wanted their evolving vision to be clearly and accurately expressed through the site UI/UX in a way that felt both playful and professional.
Iterative Design Process: We used an iterative approach to design to ensure that the creative vision aligned with stakeholder expectations. This strategy helped refine and strengthen the final outcome but added complexity to the timeline.
Limited Initial Assets: With only a brand guide available at the start, the design process required a high level of strategic thinking and creative problem-solving to bring the brand to life without the typical range of content assets.
Customized Shopify Theme: Building a Shopify storefront to match design mockups required advanced front-end edits using HTML, CSS, and Liquid codebase. The theme was refined based on client feedback to balance visual accuracy, responsiveness, and performance.

Bringing a New Brand to Life
At the start of the PlayhouseMD Shopify build, the only asset in place was a newly developed brand guide. There was no existing website, no previous marketing materials to work from, the future of the PlayhouseMD brand was in our hands. It was the first time the brand guidelines would be put into action, and so the clientside team leaned into BlueSwitch’s expertise and experience to bring it to life in a way that felt both engaging and professional. We collaborated closely with the Playhouse team, iterating on design multiple times to ensure the final result aligned with the original vision of both the company’s founder and eCommerce director.

Leveraging over a decade of experience in Shopify Plus, we also managed the full setup and configuration of the Shopify platform—ensuring that all settings were aligned with PlayhouseMD’s mission and values. We offered strategic guidance in selecting the right partners and platforms to unlock a world of possibilities. Key third-party integrations from Okendo, Klaviyo, Loop Returns, and Gorgias support a best-in-class customer experience from day one.
